15/07: BMX Worlds

Last weekend the 25th edition of BMX Worlds was held in Köln Germany. I was there to compete in the highest class of the Flatland discipline. We (Me, my girlfriend, Milan and more Dutchies) arrived on Thursday, registrated and wanted to do a floor check. But unfortunately it started raining and the weather stayed bad the rest of the event.
We went to the local riding spot and dropped down a relaxed session! A lot of riders from Spain, Finland, France and Germany were there to warm up for the next day.
Afterwards, we went back to our hotel, drank some beer and went to bed to get a good night sleep!
The pro qualifications was rescheduled to Saterday, due to the weather. Almost 40 professional riders entered the competition! The rain kept coming back and the floor was pretty bad so a lot of riders were having trouble with their run.
My run went pretty well and I qualified in 5th place. I made it to the finals which took place the next day.
Sunday we checked out from our hotel, hurried to the contest and then I warmed up for the finals! The finals started around 12:30 and at 13:00. I started out with a solid clean link! Damn, that felt good! After that, I had some trouble with the kickflip to halfpacker but got it after 3 try's. After pulling 3 links I got a little bit tired, since we had a 3 minute run. But I went on, made some small mistakes in the end, but I was pretty pleased. Especially with the first link!
Everything was broadcasted live on Freecast.tv. The results were really suprising to everyone!
1. Raphael Chiquet
2. Matthias Dandois
3. Viki Gomez
4. Tivadar Laszlo
5. Martti Kuoppa
6. Dez Maarsen (me)
7. Adam Kun
8. Sinichi Kiba
Rapheal Chiqeut from France took 1st place. I got 6th place. On the forum a lot of riders said I should have been placed higher. But, this is how it is.
So now it's time for practicing again. I got the new Palermo KGB that I won. So motivation enough.
Matt Hoffman the Bmx Guru was also there and I had the honour to shake his hand!
Already looking forward to next year!
